African Women’s Health Services Society (AWHSS), also known as Ni Wakati, is a charitable organization supporting African immigrant and refugee women in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia who live with chronic health conditions and/or face other social determinants of health. Ni Wakati, which means “It’s time” in Swahili, is dedicated to addressing issues that affect these individuals and their families in the course of their settlement and integration into Canadian Society, including supporting them in making informed choices about health, finance and employment in a linguistically and culturally sensitive manner.
